In May of 2010 I received a phone call from my mother saying that she had seen an adorable puppy living in horrendous conditions at a local pet store. She badly wanted to take him home but knew she could not, so she asked if I would take him if she picked him up.
I already had two dogs and was not looking to get another, not to mention I was suffering from daily pain, vertigo, anxiety and depression after an bad horse injury and the loss of my horse training career.

After two nights of tossing and turning about this poor puppy my family and I finally decided to go and meet him. I was appalled by the conditions the animals were living in, it was literally the filthiest place I had ever seen in my life. The animals were living in filth, and I kid you not the air smelled so bad I could hardly breath in there myself. I do not understand why anyone would take there poor little puppies to live their young lives in a place like that. After leaving the premises I called the Oregon Humane Society to report them, as I learned, so did many other good Samaritans.

I then placed the call to my mother to tell her that we would take him. The next day Koby was delivered to us at the soccer field where he took his first steps on grass in the fresh wonderful air, finally free of the filth he had called home for way to long. He seemed completely out of place as he clumsily and tentatively walked around on the grass.

It was then our journey began. One I never new would take us to where we are now.  After bringing 4 month old Koby home.  I began to teach him the basics as I had done with all of our other dogs in the past. But, there was something special about this little guy, his drive to learn was incredible, he seemed to love to learn new things and did so at an incredibly fast rate. Within the first week he had learned to sit, lay down, come when called, sit pretty, wave hi, roll over, hi five,  and was completely potty trained.

It was like we were meant to be together.  While he was initially going to be the kids dog, it was apparent that this little guy had been brought into my life for a reason. Working with him was giving me a new purpose and something to focus on other than my recent losses. While I still suffered from a lot of pain and dizzy spells, I could see the world clearer again. I would go to bed and wake up thinking about what I could teach him. I finally had a new passion.

By the age one Koby had learned more than 55 different behaviors, and he made his YouTube debut with his first trick video.
In 2013 Koby hit the 100 trick mark, and I started his Facebook page, where we have met many new friends, and enjoy meeting other talented trick dogs and trainers.

In September of 2013 Koby learned his famous painting trick. It was then that I asked Lisa Morrissey and her painting pup, Brody the Border Collie, to do a charity painting with us for the Children's Cancer Association. I picked this charity as my brother is a survivor of a very rare type of cancer, and he spent a lot of time in the hospital as a toddler and child. I couldn't think of a better way to "paw" it forward with Koby's new found talent. The painting was auctioned off on E bay just in time for Christmas, with all the proceeds donated to this wonderful charity.
Koby has also painted to raise money for the Tampa Bay Humane Society, Lincoln County Animal Shelter,  the Oregon Humane Society, the local schools music program, and Neighbors for Kids. We have also done paintings for children facing tough times, in hopes to bring an extra smile. We will continue to paw it forward in any way we can.

Koby is my best friend and a very loved part of our family.  We love to do trick training, or playing as Koby knows it. He currently knows 147 dog tricks and loves to perform  them. I look forward to many more happy and fun years together.

It's funny, if someone would of told me when I got him that he would learn 167 tricks and paint for charity, I probably never would of believed it. All I know is that he truly is my little angel and he has taught me so much.

Amazing things are possible through positive training techniques. So please give your pets the love, patience and kindness they deserve.

Special thanks to my mom and pop for bringing him into our lives and to the Oregon Humane Society for rescuing all the other neglected animals located at that horrible pet store, and making sure that justice was served. I hope they all found wonderful homes. It's rare, but true that even pet store pups need rescued sometimes.

Also, thank you to my wonderful Husband, son and daughter for supporting my new found passion for dog trick training.

If you are looking for a wonderful pet, please check your local animal shelters and rescues. Rescue animals make fabulous pets.
